That comes from a famous writer talking about another famous writer. I mean, you don’t hear some harsh criticism like that every day. I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shinbone.
He said, I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books Madden me so that I can’t conceal my frenzy from the reader and therefore, I have to stop every time I begin.
For example, Mark Twain eviscerated Jane Austen. In a letter dated September the 13th 1898. The harshest critics of writers have often been other writers, some of the world’s most celebrated have been unsparing and unsparing of the poison pen.
